January News

Wow what a fantastic start to the year, we have so much to celebrate with what we have achieved so far. Even though we are at our most quiet time with the Hedgehogs the birds are most definitely keeping us busy. Storm Eowyn caused chaos for many birds and we saw quite a few that had been blown into things with huge gusts of wind up to 74mph at times. We had lots of Birds of prey come in for a little TLC who seemed to be struggling to find food and as a result were exhausted. These have recovered well and are being released back in the areas they came from.

We are delighted to share that we are now part of the VIP Lifelines program with Pets at home. If you would like to support us please go on your app and choose us as your supported charity. If you are not already a member of their pets club you can download the app to receive discounts while shopping in store and we receive points every time you shop as a voucher to spend on goodies for the rescue.

Our new intake and treatment room is well underway and the new Casco veterinary incubators have been installed. These were partly paid for with a grant from the Jean Sainsbury’s trust along with fundraising we did last year. These will be a life saver for the many animals coming in to Pawz for Thought in the future providing a calm warm place to recover. We now even have an incubator big enough to stabilise a Swan. Each year Pawz grows but last year we took a staggering 32% more animals in to rehabilitate with your help so we have now expanded the intake room. We have now relocated into the space previously occupied by cats which have now moved into our fantastic new pedigree cat pens purchased by the Pets foundation.

On Boldon Pond produced a gorgeous wildlife charity calendar again this year with images taken at Boldon Pond. They raised a staggering £1132 from sales which helps us continue the work we do. We are always blown away by the support we receive in the community and only achieve what we do with your help. If you would like to get more involved take a look at our volunteer roles section to find out more.
