Pawz for Thought Rescue Roundup

It’s been another busy few weeks at Pawz for Thought, with a wonderful mix of rescues — from fluffy chicks to tiny pups — finding safety, love, and second chances. Here’s a peek at what’s been happening at the rescue recently.💚

Kaitlen Henner – The Silkie Star

We had quite the surprise when a young Silkie chicken was spotted roaming the streets alone. Thankfully, a kind member of the public scooped her up and brought her to us. She quickly won everyone’s hearts with her gentle nature and fabulous feathers!

We’re thrilled to share that she’s now found her forever home — and her new family has named her Kaitlen Henner (which we absolutely love!). 💛

Box of Puppies Saved from the Railway

You might have seen the heartbreaking story on our Facebook page — a box of newborn puppies was dumped on railway lines. It’s hard to imagine the danger they were in, but thanks to a quick-thinking passerby and our amazing team, they are now safe and thriving in foster care.

The pups have just discovered solid food and are having a fantastic time exploring their meals (and wearing a bit of it too!). We’re still waiting on DNA test results to find out what breed they are — stay tuned for the big reveal! 🐾

Our Little Grebe Chick

A tiny grebe chick recently joined us — and he might just be one of the most adorable rescues we’ve ever had. He’s been busy foraging for worms and practicing his natural behaviours, and we’re delighted to say he’s nearly ready for release back into the wild where he belongs. 🌿

Birds of Prey on the Mend

We’ve also seen a surge in young birds of prey coming into our care recently, many of them underweight and struggling. It’s been a reminder of just how fragile our ecosystem is — and how human actions can have far-reaching effects.

Please remember: When you use rat poison or slug pellets, it doesn’t just affect pests — it poisons the entire food chain. Birds of prey, foxes, hedgehogs, and even domestic pets can become seriously ill or die after eating poisoned rodents.

If you need to manage pests, consider wildlife-friendly alternatives such as humane traps, owl boxes (natural rodent control!), or non-toxic repellents. Together, we can keep both animals and the environment safe. 🌍

Thank You for Your Support

Every rescue, recovery, and happy ending is possible because of you — our incredible supporters, adopters, and volunteers. Your kindness keeps us going and helps animals like Kaitlen, the pups, and our little grebe find the second chances they deserve.

If you’d like to donate, foster, or volunteer, please visit our Facebook page.

Until next time — stay kind, stay curious, and give your pets an extra cuddle from us. 🐾
