How can you help Pawz for Thought?
At Pawz for Thought, everything we do is powered by kindness – by people like you who care about giving animals a second chance. We rely entirely on volunteers and the generosity of the public to keep our vital work going, and there are so many ways you can get involved.
Could you open your home to foster an animal in need? Lend a hand at one of our fundraising events? Or help transport animals to safety? These acts make a world of difference – not just to us, but to every life we touch.
Donations are another powerful way to support us. Whether you give directly through our website or take part in fundraising activities, every contribution helps us rescue, care for, rehome and release animals across the Northeast.
You can also help us grow by simply spreading the word. Sharing our mission with friends and family, colleagues and on social media helps us reach more people, find more homes, and save more lives.
No matter how big or small, every single act of support helps change an animal’s life for the better. Thank you for being part of their journey.

Have fun while raising
money for a great cause
From taking part in a fundraising event, organising your own, or getting together with your colleagues to raise money – we’ve got lots of fundraising options to explore.
Any funds that you raise, no matter how big or small, will support us in our aim to help more sick, injured and abandoned animals get a second chance at life.
Fundraising and Events
Walk, run, swim, cycle, bake, party or be creative and make up your own fun challenge! How about adding our name to your event for example, Pawz for a Party, or Pawz for Sport give it a try, anything really does go as long as it’s safe and legal. If you are looking to create your own challenge or take part in an organised challenge not listed on our website, we’d love to hear from you! If organising your own challenge is not for you and you don’t fancy the ones on our website, then maybe go exploring the internet and see what takes your fancy. There are loads of challenge websites out there waiting to sign you up and don’t forget the Northeast’s amazing Great North Run!
If you decide to go with a challenge organised by a third party, there are usually two fundraising options – Self-Funding or Minimum Sponsorship. Please refer to the organiser’s website for the costs associated with either option. If you choose to self-fund, then 100% of the money raised through sponsorship will come to Pawz for Thought.
Let’s Celebrate – Got a birthday, anniversary or special occasion coming up? Instead of gifts, you can ask friends and family to donate to Pawz for Thought through Facebook. It’s quick to set up and a wonderful way to mark your day while helping more animals live better lives.

We’d love to see you at our charity shop at 170 Fulwell Road, Sunderland, open Monday to Saturday from 10am to 4pm. We’re always looking for friendly volunteers, as well as donations of good-quality, saleable items like clothes, books, and bric-a-brac to support our work.
We’re also always on the lookout for new and high-quality items for our monthly online auction – these are incredibly important in helping us raise much-needed funds, and your donations can make a huge difference.

Other Types of Corporate Support
Payroll Giving
Payroll Giving allows employees who pay UK income tax to donate a fixed amount each month directly from their salary before tax. This means every £1 donated costs only 80p, or even less for higher rate taxpayers. Regular donations help us plan ahead and continue providing vital services for animals in need. Employers can help promote Payroll Giving by sharing information through staff intranets, internal communications or workplace posters. Some organisations also choose to match employee donations, doubling their impact.
How It Works
For employees – Speak to your employer to see if they offer a Payroll Giving scheme. If they do, simply tell them you would like to support Pawz for Thought and the amount you wish to donate.
For employers – If Payroll Giving is not currently available, you can set up a scheme through a Payroll Giving agency.
Matching Employee Fundraising
Companies can support staff who fundraise for charity by matching the amount they raise. This can significantly increase the funds raised for Pawz for Thought while encouraging employee involvement and boosting workplace morale. Employers do not have to match the full amount, many companies choose to match donations up to a set limit.
Gifts in Kind
Gifts in kind such as donations of goods, services or expertise can be just as valuable as financial support. These contributions vary depending on the services a business provides. For example:
- Donating products such as cat food, bird seed, enrichment toys, office items (stationery, envelopes paper etc), volunteer provisions (tea, coffee, sugar, biscuits)
- Providing IT equipment or technical expertise
If your organisation has an idea for how it could support Pawz for Thought, we would love to hear from you.

Philanthropy
Support from charitable trusts, foundations and major donors plays a vital role in helping us continue our life-saving work. These generous contributions enable us to rescue, care and rehabilitate injured wildlife and vulnerable domestic animals, providing veterinary care, safe shelter, specialist food and the time they need to recover.
Philanthropic funding also helps us invest in our facilities, expand our rescue and rehabilitation programmes, and develop projects that improve animal welfare and conservation for the future.
We are incredibly grateful for the strong relationships we have built with our existing funding partners and are always excited to welcome new supporters into the Pawz family who share our passion for protecting animals.

Legacy & In-Memory Fundraising
Legacy
You can create a lasting legacy by leaving a gift in your Will to Pawz for Thought.
If you are considering remembering us in your Will, we would like to say a heartfelt thank you. Any gift, no matter the size, can make a truly meaningful difference to the animals who rely on us.
We understand that leaving a gift in your Will is a very personal decision. Your loved ones should always come first, and we encourage you to talk it through with those close to you and seek independent legal advice.
A legacy gift is truly the gift of a lifetime. For us, it means being able to continue rescuing, caring for, and protecting animals for many years to come.
Every year, we provide vital care to injured wildlife and vulnerable domestic animals who have nowhere else to turn. From emergency rescues and veterinary treatment to rehabilitation and safe release back into the wild, this work depends on the kindness and generosity of supporters who believe every animal deserves compassion and a second chance of life.
By leaving a gift in your Will, you would help ensure that this life-saving work continues long into the future. Your legacy could help provide food, medical care, safe shelter, and rehabilitation for animals in need, giving them the opportunity to recover and thrive.
Quite simply, a gift in your Will is a gift to the animals of tomorrow helping to ensure that whenever an animal needs help, we will be there.

By donating in memory of Pawz, you’ll raise vital funds to support us as we make second chances in life possible for so many animals.
