Volunteer with Pawz for Thought
Volunteering with Pawz for Thought is more than just giving your time – it’s about changing lives, both for animals in need and for the community around you. Every moment you can spare, whether it’s a few hours or a longer commitment, truly makes a difference.
There are so many ways to get involved. You could lend a hand in our charity shop, support the team at our rescue centre, join our incredible SOS rescue drivers, or help bring our fundraising events to life. If you love being on the move, helping transport animals to safety is a hugely rewarding way to contribute.
Got skills to share? Whether it’s spreading the word on social media, creating digital content or supporting behind the scenes, your talents can help us reach more people and save more animals.
Every act of kindness – big or small – helps us rescue, care for, rehome and release animals, giving them the love and second chance they deserve. We simply couldn’t do it without you.
Our Volunteer Application Process
We’re delighted that you’re interested in volunteering with us! Our application process is designed to be simple and supportive so we can help you find the role that suits you best.
- Find a Role – Start by exploring our available volunteering opportunities and choose a role that matches your interests, skills, and availability.
- Apply – Once you’ve found a role you’d like to apply for, request an application pack by emailing us at volunteering@pawzforthought.org
- Chat With Us – Some roles may involve a short interview or informal chat. This gives us a chance to get to know you better and answer any questions you might have.
- References and Checks – We may ask for one or two references. For certain roles we may also need to carry out a background check such as a DBS check in the UK
- Induction and Training – Once your application is successful, we’ll welcome you with an induction and provide any training you need so you feel confident starting your volunteer role.
We aim to make the process as smooth as possible and support you every step of the way. We look forward to welcoming you to our volunteer community!

Corporate Volunteering Days
Experience the rewarding work of animal care by joining a taster day at Pawz for Thought in Sunderland! Taster days provide an excellent opportunity to see firsthand how we rescue, rehabilitate, and rehome animals in need. Whether you’re considering volunteering, fostering, or simply want to learn more, these sessions offer a hands-on introduction to our vital work.
You can explore our charity shop on Fulwell Road, assist with daily operations, or meet some of the adorable animals awaiting their forever homes. It’s a fantastic way to contribute while discovering the joy of helping animals.
